I’m Not Having It – That Sea Must Part!

There are things that we truly desire deep within our hearts, hopes & dreams, things only the Lord Himself would truly know about. Things we don’t necessarily talk about openly, but which stay within us as burning desires.

For me personally there are so many things I wish to see come to fruition in my life; hopes of a family, children, friends, success – basically true rest. In the spiritual sense there are so many promises God has given me which have not yet been fulfilled, or for the purpose of this post – have not yet been claimed.

Today I want to talk about hope – the things we hope for. Some of these things we may have tried to get or to make happen in our own strength, but have not been able to attain them. If we look at some of our deepest desires and truly search our hearts, we will often find that the things we desire the most are actually the things which are beyond our control to attain, things only God Himself can do for us.

Now I’m a firm believer in contentment, learning to be content whether you have or you do not have, but does that mean you should stop desiring things? No.

For while I’ve been so tired of waiting for certain things to come to pass that I’ve stopped hoping for them, stopped watching for them & stopped praying for them. What things am I talking about? I’m referring to things the Lord has revealed to me in dreams, in visions, or by other workings of the Holy Spirit.

You know those dreams – the ones you wake up from that are so clear you wake KNOWING 100% God has spoken. You wake lifted, filled with hope and excited about what God has revealed. As time passes and you look at the physical where things look so opposite you can gradually begin to push them to the back of your mind. Then you can doubt (depending on how opposite things look in the physical), then you can almost forget about them, or can come to the place where you don’t watch and pray for them. Finally you can find that you aren’t actually truly concerned about whether or not they come to pass at all.

If God reveals something to you, there is a reason – God is a God of purpose He does absolutely nothing in vain. If He has revealed a promise it’s often so that you can claim it.

When we endure trials that last for a long period, or wait on God for what we consider individually to be a long time, two things can happen. Our spirit can either be stirred up when we reach breaking point and we then seek God with everything with have until we see that word fulfilled. Or (and this is not good), our hope dies there in that desert place.

Isaiah 37 vs 3 (NIV)

They told him, “This is what Hezekiah says: This day is a day of distress and rebuke and disgrace, as when children come to the moment of birth and there is no strength to deliver them.

When a woman is in labour, the pain and contractions will either cause a woman to push and therefore give birth, or because of sheer exhaustion she won’t have the strength to push at all. I am of the belief that when it comes closer to the time for God’s promise to be fulfilled something in our spirit is stirred up. Just like the Israelites when in captivity in Egypt and Babylon, who when the time of their captivity was over began to groan, and in turn they cried out to God who delivered them.

Now there is a place of rest in God where we are content, but it’s important to have an expectant heart.

On some level I suppose a part of me is scared so I’m not willing to fight and claim these promises. Part of me is afraid because Gods promises are so great, they often seem impossible until fulfilled. Part of me is almost too scared to put all my hopes in God granting my true desires & wait on God in an expectant way; but isn’t that faith.

We must desire to see Gods word fully manifest in our life. We must desire to enter Canaan – why come out of Egypt only to die in the desert without ever seeing Gods promises fulfilled in your life. The desert is for a time, not a place to live and settle down in.

I want my life and testimony to be real and not false, I want to experience first-hand the wonders described in the word of God. I want to be able to say He did it for me, I’ve seen His wonders performed, and He kept His word to me.

Bottom line if I don’t believe God can fulfil His word to me and do the impossible, what the hell am I doing with my life? What am I preaching to people, what am I writing here? Why am I going to church? Why I am spending hours studying a word I don’t truly believe in?

MY LIFE WITH A SUPERNATURAL GOD MUST BE REAL! NOT STORIES ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE’S MIRACLES – BUT MY OWN TESTIMONY!

Let me be real with you – I’ve had enough. I must see the wonders of God in the land of the living; I must die believing and hoping in him.

Some of the things God has revealed to me, I’ve been waiting over ten years to see come to pass and I’m not even a patient person or that old (that’s like 1/3 of my long long life man), but I will not give up. I will continue to call upon Him and watch to see those things fulfilled.

Habbakkuk 2 vs 3-4 (NIV)

Then the LORD answered me and said, “Record the vision And inscribe it on tablets, That the one who reads it may run. “For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay.

Here the prophet is told to write the vision he has seen down, so that the one who reads it may run. God’s word in our lives WILL NOT fail, and we must never give up on those dreams God has given us. Furthermore we should give Him not rest until He fulfils that promise. It doesn’t even have to be a dream; we have so many promises given to us in His word, waiting to be claimed.

In the scripture above – the one who sees it is told to run with it. What have you seen or heard from the Lord – are you running with it?

We must always hope in the Lord and never ever give up until He Himself establishes us and lifts us up with His mighty right hand.

Psalm 130 vs 5-8 (NIV)

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
for with the Lord is unfailing love
and with him is full redemption.

Put all your hopes in the Lord, hope and wait for the fulfilment of His promises just like you wait for the morning, knowing the sun will rise. He will not fail us and He honours His word – truly His word does not return to Him void.

So what can and should we do?

Whatever your issue, mountain or promise – you must take it in petition to God, knowing that He is able to fulfil it. I am talking about all issues here now – sickness, bareness, worries, hopes, dreams, relationships, careers.

DO NOT GIVE GOD REST UNTIL HE FULFILS HIS WORD.

Isaiah 62 vs 8

You who remind the LORD, take no rest for yourselves; And give Him no rest until He establishes And makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

We must not rest until He fulfils the words He has spoken to us. We have an example in the New Testament of how we should pray and seek God persistently until He answers. Do not stop until you hear, God does speak – pray until He speaks to you about the issues of your heart.

Luke 18 vs 1-8 (NIV)

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”

Just as this parable teaches we must go to God persistently. The word of God tells us that the fervent effectual prayer of the righteous man availeth much. There is power in prayer never mistake it; our weapons are not carnal, but are mighty in power pulling down strongholds.

I want to round up by looking at Jacob. He was a man who had a promise and knew how to claim it. He tried many times to make that promise come to pass and left so much chaos behind him in the process. But one night he learned a lesson of a lifetime, the night he wrestled with God.

Genesis 32 vs 24-28 (NIV)

So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25 When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”

But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

27 The man asked him, “What is your name?”

“Jacob,” he answered.

28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”

You see here the secret is revealed. Is it that he wrestled God and overpowered Him? – No. But he overcame the world and won with God because he came to a great understanding. He came to the realisation that he in his own power could not make that promise come to pass, only God could do it. Furthermore he refused to let go of God until God fulfilled this word & promise to him – That’s how we should approach prayer!

I want to encourage you in closing and also share something with you. Some of the things God has shown me seem so impossible that at times I have doubted and even questioned my sanity (I’m really not joking here, but that’s for another post) – am I sure? am I going crazy? is it my mind? – these are just some of the thoughts I have had – almost to the brinks of insanity (I kid you not!) – but yet I will still hope in the Lord.

What are the words God has spoken to you? What are those things that were so clear when God spoke them to you, but which you have given up on in your waiting?

Whatever they are – nothing is too great for our god!

NOW GO AND ENTER CANAAN – GO AND CLAIM THOSE PROMISES!
